Prithvi Shaw: Playing Along Ground Is More Important

He was captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team in 2018 and duly retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2020. The opener has scored centuries on debut in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, and then another feather to his cap by becoming the youngest Indian Test centurion on debut in 2018.

“In the start you have to see how the wicket is, playing along the ground is more important. I was striking the ball well last year as well, but I was making silly mistakes,” he said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

He managed just five runs in his previous match. He was dismissed while trying to play a big shot off KXIP pacer Mohammed Shami in the previous match and ended up getting caught at mid-on. Both KXIP and DC scored 157/8 in their stipulated 20 overs and the match was won by Delhi Capitals through the Super Over.

Prithvi Shaw has played 4 Tests and 3 ODIs for India and has scored two half-centuries and a century already in Tests. In ODIs, he has failed to grab the opportunity averaging a modest 28 only.

Prithvi Shaw Want To See Highlights Of Knock

Prithvi Shaw said that he tried to keep the ball down to the ground more often this time and he says he is trying to do this IPL season which helped him build a long inning.

“This year I am going to try and play my strokes but more along the ground. I would like to see the highlights of my knock and see what I did well to get to the 50. We had a bit of a slow start in the powerplay and but we knew if we didn’t lose a wicket in the powerplay it will go well later,” he said.

Prithvi Shaw with the help of another opener of DC Shikhar Dhawan who scored 35 built a first wicket partnership of 94. Prithvi Shaw was stumped on 64 with the score at 103/2. Piyush Chawla dismissed both the openers. Delhi Capitals posted 175/3 mainly due to his 64. In reply, CSK could only manage 131/7 despite Faf Du Plessis starring again with 43 but CSK failed in every department.
