The 44-year-old Mike Hesson is one of the reputed coaches in the present generation. He started his coaching career at the very early age of 22 years. After working with the New Zealand domestic side Otago, Hesson took up the coaching role of Argentina national cricket team. Completing this role, he returned to Otago and took up the head coach job. After the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, he coached the Kenya national cricket team.

In July 2012, he became the successor of John Wright in the head coach post of New Zealand national cricket team.

Under his tenure, New Zealand achieved massive success in international cricket. During his tenure, New Zealand reached the final in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which was their first-ever CWC final. However, Australia beat them in the final as New Zealand finished that tournament as the runners-up. Apart from that final, New Zealand didn’t lose another game in that tournament.

For his outstanding services in cricket, Hesson received the officer (ONZM) honour during the  2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours in New Zealand. In June 2018, Hesson resigned from the coaching post of the national team.

In IPL 2019, Hesson was the head coach of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Just a few days ago, he resigned from that post.
