The 57-year-old Ravi Shastri is the present head coach of the Indian national cricket team. Though he may not has high experiences as a coach, he is currently one of the strong candidates to become the next head coach of this team. It means that Shastri has an excellent chance to retain his position.

In his cricket career, Shastri started as a left-arm spinner but gradually evolved as an all-rounder. He played for India from February 1981 to December 1992 as he played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs.

After his cricket career, Ravi Shastri became a successful cricket commentator.

In 2014, Shastri became the director of Indian national cricket team and continued that till the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

After the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Shastri took up the head coach role of the Indian national cricket team.

Under his tenure, India has achieved some reputed successes. During his tenure, India won their first-ever bilateral ODI series on the South African soil and maiden bilateral Test series on the Australian soil. Also in this period, India won the Asia Cup 2018 and reached the semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Shastri had the initial contract until the end of CWC 2019. However, later, he has earned a 45-day extension as he will remain in this head coach post at least till the end of the ongoing Caribbean tour.
