South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has been fined 75 per cent of his match fee as he brushed Tamim Iqbal’s shoulder during the second day of the Bangladesh versus South Africa Test in Chittagong, Wednesday.
The 22 year old breached the ICC player’s code of conduct which does not allow any “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with player…in the course of play during an International Match.”
The charge was laid by the on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Joel Wilson, as well as third umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Sharfuddoula. ICC Emirates Panel match referee Chris Broad fined de Kock without any formal hearing.
“As the over before lunch came to an end, Quinton de Kock walked in front of the stumps to confront Tamim Iqbal,” said Broad.
“In doing so de Kock deliberately brushed Tamim Iqbal’s shoulder and rib area. This resulted in a heated exchange between the two, initiated by the contact made by de Kock. This type of incident has no place on a cricket field.”
Tamim Iqbal was involved in another ugly physical brawl during the ODI series. South African player Rilee Roussow was fined 50 per cent of his match as he brushed Tamim.
Bangladesh are in firm control of the Test as they bundled out South Africa inside paltry 248 in the first day of the Test, and now batting on 268 for five. With Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das at the pitch Bangladesh is set to take more than 100 plus lead over South Africa.
