While India will play the much-awaited four-match Test series against the hosts Australia at the end of this year, former Indian captain Rahul Dravid feels that the presence of Steven Smith and David Warner makes a huge impact on the present Australian team. Dravid is very much excited to see the battle of the present top two Test teams.

Though the recent international cricket has been hugely affected due to the coronavirus pandemic, many are confident about the India tour of Australia, which has been scheduled recently. Apart from the three-match T20I series and three-match ODI series (subject to be confirmed especially for the limited-overs series), India will also play the four-match Test series in this tour.

The Test series between Australia and India, which will also be the part of the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship, has been scheduled from 3rd December 2020 to 7th January 2021.

Last time, when the Indian team toured in Australia in 2018/19 season, they won their first-ever Test and ODI bilateral series in that country. However, Rahul Dravid feels that this time the Indian team will face a tougher job than their previous tour due to the presence of Steven Smith and David Warner.

Dravid recently told Sony Ten Pit Stop, “Missing Smith and Warner made a huge impact for Australia. They are their (Australia’s) top two batsman, they scored the most number of runs for them. We have seen how a big impact someone like Smith had on the Ashes, even though Warner was out of form, he was able to carry that series along with (Marnus) Labuschagne on his own. But yes, these two guys (Smith and Warner) will make a huge impact in that team, so it will be a bigger and stiffer challenge for India this time around.”

However, Dravid is also confident about the present Indian team as he believes that they are ready to compete against the better Australian team. The former Indian captain is waiting for an exciting series where the strong Australian team will face the top-class Indian players.

Dravid claimed, “But I’d say India has got the fire power to compete and they have got top-class players. So it should be a good one, everyone is going to look forward to it. It is going to be a great series especially after India won last time, it was a fantastic win for India.”

It should be a great contest and probably marquee series of the year for the world: Rahul Dravid about forthcoming Australia vs India Test series

Talking about the major reason for Australia’s defeat in the home Test series against India in 2018/19 season, Dravid pointed out their batting failure, where they are now stronger due to Smith, Warner, Marnus Labuschagne etc.

Dravid quoted, “Two great teams, two top-class teams. Australia obviously back to full strength with Smith and Warner. The area where Australia struggled last time was their batting, their batting just kept collapsing, they never gave their bowlers enough to rest upon. So that is something that they will hope that doesn’t happen this time.”

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid also praised the recent Indian bowling department.

The former Indian captain commented, “India’s bowling has been fantastic over the last couple of years, so that should be great. It should be a great contest and probably marquee series of the year for the world.”

During the upcoming Test series between Australia and India, the second Test (Adelaide Oval, Adelaide from 11th-15th December 2020) will be the Day/Night Test. It will be the first-ever pink-ball Test match between Australia and India.
