Ranji Trophy: Jaydev Unadkat To Lead Saurashtra; Shubman Gill Named In Punjab's Squad 1

Jaydev Unadkat will continue to lead Saurashtra in the domestic season as he has been named as the captain for upcoming Ranji Trophy season. The squad also includes India Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. Since India do not play a Test match in December and January Pujara will be available for a major part of the league stage.

In the last season as well, Pujara turned up for Saurashtra in the semi-final, after returning from Australia. In fact, India head coach Ravi Shastri asked him to take a break after the long tour of Australia.

Sheldon Jackson

Saurashtra’s squad includes regular Sheldon Jackson, Dharamendrasinh Jadeja, Kamlesh Makvana and Arpit Vasavada. The team will miss out on the services of Ravindra Jadeja as he made his comeback to the T20I squad for West Indies series. He is a member of the squad for all formats and is unlikely to be available for Saurashtra during the season.

Saurashtra yesterday, named Karsan Ghavri as their coach for the upcoming season. The runners-up of Ranji Trophy 2018/19, Saurashtra play Himachal Pradesh in their opening match in Dharamsala from December 9. They will face Railways in the second round of the league stage.

Mandeep Singh to lead Punjab –

Mandeep Singh has been named Punjab’s captain for the Ranji Trophy season. The squad includes Shubman Gill, who is yet to make his Test debut. He was a part of the Test series against South Africa and Bangladesh but didn’t get to make his debut.

With Prithvi Saw making his comeback to Ranji Trophy, both the players will compete for the reserve opener’s place for the tour of New Zealand which takes place next year.

Surprisingly, there was no place for out-of-favour India pacer Sandeep Sharma, who was recently part of white-ball squad. Siddarth Kaul will lead the pace attack and will be assisted by Baltej Singh.

Senior all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh Mann was named Mandeep’s deputy. The squad also includes Mayank Markande and Anmolpreet Singh. Punjab face Rajasthan in their opening game in Jaipur from December 9.
