Indian head coach Ravi Shastri lauded the Indian team for showing amazing consistency in recent times. He believes that it is one of the most consistent Indian teams ever across all formats.
Virat Kohli-led Indian team is playing dominant cricket all over the world. Even in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian limited-overs team impressively. With the time progress, the Indian team is becoming more consistent, especially in Test cricket.
Despite mostly performing well in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Indian team failed to win the trophy. In the semi-final of that tournament, New Zealand beat them by 18 runs. Chasing down the 240 runs target, once India were struggling on 24/4. However, the middle-order batsmen, especially Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni, put incredible efforts in that innings which carried them very close to the target but they just failed to reach it.
After that CWC 2019, India haven’t suffered any series defeat, while they have won all their series, except the drawn T20I series with South Africa at home. Meanwhile, India have won seven out of eight Tests this year while the other had a draw result. They have won all their last seven matches, including the last four consecutive innings victory.
Ravi Shastri is very happy to see the intensity of the present Indian team after losing the CWC 2019 semi-final. He feels that the present Indian team is one of the most consistent Indian teams ever across all formats.
Ravi Shastri said, “For me, the intensity shown by this team is fabulous. The way they have bounced back after those 15 minutes in Manchester. That was a bitter pill to swallow and hurt one and all. But then, the ferocity and intensity they have shown after that in the last three months is unbelievable. This is remarkable and that is why I say if you look back 5-6 years, this will have to be one of the most consistent Indian teams ever across all formats.”
Ravi Shastri was asked about the future of MS Dhoni
On the other hand, MS Dhoni hasn’t played a cricket match since that heart-breaking semi-final defeat in the CWC 2019. While Jadeja scored 77 runs (59 balls) in that game, Dhoni played the responsible knock of 50 runs (72 balls). There is no confirming news from Dhoni or the BCCI about his cricket future.
Commenting on this, Ravi Shastri has clarified that the time will tell everything.
Ravi Shastri said about MS Dhoni’s future, “It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni’s form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided.”
