In the recent past, India’s team management has focused on increasing batting depth in the team which had halted Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal to play together. With the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, who can be effective with the bat as well as ball, the two wrist spinners are getting fewer chances to play together.
Last year, they were called as an inseparable partner’s in the team. The duo last played together in the league match against England, which India lost, during the 2019 World Cup.
And, one bad game changed everything for the ‘KulCha’ Jodi.
When played together, the duo managed to pick up 65 wickets in 34 matches at a spectacular average of 22.73 in ODIs.
Even in T20Is, they boasted about the good record and have scalped 22 wickets in 10 matches.
Ravi Shastri backs me a lot: Kuldeep Yadav
One year back, India’s head coach Shastri called Kuldeep as the top choice for the overseas series. But his statement didn’t reflect the current situation. He was not included in the Test squad against New Zealand besides in the ODI series, he played the first match and then was benched in the next two matches.
However, the Uttar Pradesh cricketers said that the head coach has backed him throughout his career so far.
“(Coach) Ravi Bhai backs me a lot. He is open to everything. Whatever cricket I played till date, he backed me a lot. It was a team decision keeping in mind the conditions,” Kuldeep added in a statement.
Meanwhile, the wrist-spinner is confident about his games. He has set his sights on the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 which is scheduled in October, this year. But before the mega event, he is eying the Indian Premier League (IPL) that starts on March 29, in order to make a strong statement and return to the India setup.
