Former Indian opener and now a cricket commentator Aakash Chopra feels Royal Challengers Bangalore could be in the IPL playoffs this year. Chopra had earlier stated that RCB can do well in the upcoming season of the tournament. Meanwhile, it has been three IPL seasons since the team has made their way into the last four of the tournament.
Virat Kohli-led team had last made it to the playoff stages back in IPL 2016 when they had finished as runners-up. Kohli had an outstanding edition as he had gone on to amass record 973 runs in the season. However, RCB hasn’t been consistent in the last three editions of the IPL and they would aim to turn the tables in the forthcoming competition.
RCB would aim to turn the tables
Chopra had earlier said that UAE conditions will suit RCB and they will be a team to watch out for. The team was able to get players like Chris Morris. Dale Steyn, Josh Phillipe, Kane Richardson and Aaron Finch in the IPL auction, and these players can help the side in getting the momentum.
RCB has been too reliant on the shoulders of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers and they would want a collective team effort. Furthermore, their death bowling has been their Achilles Heel in many crucial matches.
Aakash Chopra said while talking on his YouTube Channel, “The RCB fans and Kohli fans will be happier because I feel that this season will be good for RCB. Their bowling will be better than before and their batting will do good.”
“Overall this season will be better than before. Earlier they used to fight for the wooden spoon but this year they will be in mid-table right from the beginning and they will challenge the top 4. I feel this time, if they play a proper XI, this team can go ahead and they could be in the playoffs is what I feel.”
Meanwhile, RCB is yet to savor success in the IPL and they have made it to the final on three occasions. The team would aim to come up with a collective team effort in the IPL.
