RCB Loves To Be Associated With Indian Skipper Virat Kohli Despite String Of Failures

RCB team which is yet to win the IPL trophy since its inception in 2008 along with Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals in stark contrast to Chennai Super Kings, who have won three times and Mumbai Indians, who have won it 4 times. They are yet to win IPL but finished as runners up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. They were runners up in 2009,2011 and 2016-the last of which came under Virat Kohli.

RCB was led by Rahul Dravid in 2008, Kevin Pietersen and Anil Kumble in 2009/2010, Daniel Vettori in 2011 and 2012 before Virat Kohli assumed the captaincy. Shane Watson also led the team in only 3 matches in 2017. Virat Kohli, who is also the Indian captain has not been successful for RCB, unlike Indian Team’s spectacular success.

RCB Still Wants Virat Kohli As Captain Despite Failure As A Team For Excellent Track Record of Virat Kohli For India

Virat Kohli has captained RCB in 96 matches but lost most of them-47 and winning only 44 with 2 being tied and 3 producing no-result. Under his leadership, the franchise were runners-up in 2016 and could qualify for playoffs in only 2015 and finished as 5th in 2013,7th in 2014, 8th in 2017 and 2019 and 6th in 2018.

“Virat is the Indian captain,” Churiwala said. “And has the highest fan-followers. We all love Virat and love to be associated with Virat.”

“Look, this is what (the) game is: sometimes you lose, sometimes you win, but let’s not forget what that individual is and what kind of track record he has,” Churiwala said. “As RCB, as an RCB owner, we are very, very proud that Virat is associated with us.”

Virat Kohli has been in RCB squad since 2008 and was appointed captain of the team in 2013 IPL. Despite failure as an RCB captain, he has led the Indian team to victories in several matches and is currently one of the top-ranked Indian batsmen across all formats. Since October 2017, he has been the top-ranked ODI batsman which is shown by his records in white ball. He has scored 11867 runs in 248 one-dayers averaging 59.34 with as much as 43 centuries. His average in tests and T20Is are also more than 50 which shows his domination in cricket.

RCB Ensured To Create A Core Of 11 Players

RCB has an experienced squad this season featuring the likes of AB De Villiers, Moeen Ali, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris, Aaron Finch as some of the foreign recruits besides boosting of Indian stars like Parthiv Patel, Shivam Dube, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar and the captain himself.

“Without getting into specific names, on the matter of what was in our minds – very clearly, we were buying out to ensure that we can create a core XI. Each and every player has a meaningful role to play, whether they’re in the XI or not in the XI.

“Number two, we also wanted to ensure that we have a proper balance between the batting side and the bowling side. We wanted to ensure that there’s strength on both sides. We had identified internally a couple of weaknesses we wanted to work upon, without getting to the specifics, some of the players we’ve chosen this time is to ensure that we stick to that. One of them was that the core players are national players, that’s what we’ve stuck to also this time,” he added.

Virat Kohli was on a red hot form in 2016 as the team finished runners-up and RCB will hope he repeats his performance in IPL 2020 as the team look forward to laying their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time. Virat Kohli scored 973 runs averaging 81.08 in 16 matches which was the maximum by any player in 2016. He won the orange cap hitting four centuries and seven half-centuries in 2016 as the team finished as runners-up.
