The hosts India and the visitors Australia are ready to begin the three-match ODI series. Former Australian two-time World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting has revealed his prediction for this series.
Last year, Australia toured India for the two-match T20I and five-match ODI series. While Australia whitewashed India in the T20I series (won by 2-0), India initially took 2-0 lead in the ODI series but finally they lost that home ODI series too by the 3-2 margin.
Now, India and Australia will play the three-match ODI series between 14th and 19th January 2020. Both teams are currently in great form. While India is the second-ranked ODI team, Australia is the fourth-ranked ODI team.
Both India and Australia were the semi-finalists in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Since then, India have played two ODI series while Australia haven’t played a single ODI yet. In the last two ODI series, both against West Indies (one away and one home), India won both those series as they have won four out of last six ODIs (one lost and one no result).
Prediction: 2-1 Australia – Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting revealed his prediction for the upcoming India-Australia ODI series. After returning of Steven Smith and David Warner, Australia is now a different team as they are growing up stronger with the time progress. However, Ponting also believes that India will be desperate to take revenge for their previous home ODI series defeat. But Ponting still feels that Australia will win this series by the 2-1 margin.
When a Twitterati asked Ricky Ponting for his prediction of India vs Australia ODI series, the former Aussie captain tweeted, “Australia will be full of confidence after an excellent World Cup and a great summer of Test cricket but India will be keen to redeem themselves from the last ODI series loss against Australia. Prediction: 2-1 Australia”

While Australia finally brought the Ashes 2019 trophy from England, first time after 2001, they are unbeaten at home in this season. Meanwhile, India haven’t lost a series yet since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
