ToggleIrfan Pathan has said that Rinku Singh will not make it into the Indian team if Virat Kohli bats at No. 3 spot for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This ICC event will be played in the West Indies and the USA in June this year.
The 2024 T20 World Cup team selection process is about to begin, and Indian supporters are eager to hear from the BCCI officially. It is unlikely that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will experiment with the team since several of the regulars appear certain to hold onto their spots. Jasprit Bumrah, Rinku Singh, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and more players are on the list.
Along with Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are confirmed to be included in the roster. Given his demonstrated fitness, Rishabh appears certain to be India’s starting wicketkeeper-batsman in the ICC tournament.
In the WC, Hardik Pandya will continue to play and support Rohit. He was supposed to assume the T20I captaincy in 2023, but he was unable to do so.
“If Virat bats at number three, Rinku Singh will not be in India XI” – Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan made a significant declaration before the T20 World Cup team selection, stating that Rinku Singh might not be included in the playing XI if Virat Kohli does not begin the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma should start the innings, according to Pathan, who made this statement on the Star Sports Show.
“See, as far as I’m concerned, Indian openers should be Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, purely because of the right-hand and left-hand combination. Don’t forget that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s international strike rate is 160 and you need that, you need that firepower. If Virat opens up the batting, what happens is that it will allow the combination of 11 to be in a certain way, which you want,” Irfan said on Star Sports.
“If that happens, you might see Shivam Dube playing, if he’s there in the squad. You might see guys like Rinku Singh in the playing 11 as well. But if Virat bats at number three, that might not happen. So that’s a big challenge,” he added.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma last opened the batting for India in 2021, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has been on fire with the bat. All three batters have scored a century each in the ongoing IPL 2024.
