The 34-year-old veteran Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has recently revealed his favourite captain under whom he has played. Apart from this revelation, Uthappa has also talked about his new Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The veteran cricketer Robin Uthappa is a very familiar face in Indian cricket. He has served the Indian national cricket team for several times between 2006 and 2015. He has played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is where the right-handed batsman has scored 934 and 249 runs respectively. Uthappa was one of the members during the ICC World T20 2007-winning Indian team. He believes that he still can return to the national team as he wants to play in the upcoming World Cup.
Robin Uthappa is very famous in domestic cricket for his consistent batting performances. The right-handed batsman is also a very familiar face in the IPL, who has already served for the four different franchises (Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors India and Kolkata Knight Riders) before recently joining with Rajasthan Royals. He also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2014 as he played a massive role for Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) victory in that tournament.
While Uthappa has experienced to play under various captains, including five different captains during his international career, he has chosen Gautam Gambhir as his best captain. During his tenure for KKR, Uthappa was very successful, especially under the leadership of Gambhir. According to him, Gambhir can communicate enough even though he doesn’t speak much. Under his captaincy, Uthappa felt very secure which helped him to perform in the best way.
Uthappa recently told ESPNcricinfo, “Gauti, for me, stood out. Even though he doesn’t speak much, he communicates just what is enough, and you know that you’re in a good place. Good leaders make you feel secure, then they let you be, and you see that in their results as a captain.”
Robin Uthappa is excited to spend enough time with the Rajasthan Royals squad
After spending six successive years (2014-2019), Uthappa said goodbye his IPL team KKR, who released him ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. In the 2020 IPL Auction, Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 3 crore. While the IPL 2020 is still doubtful amid coronavirus outbreak, Uthappa is excited to meet and spend enough time with his new star teammates.
He spoke about his new IPL team, “I am genuinely looking forward to meeting and spending time with Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Oshane Thomas, Tom Curran and others because its only when guys come together, and set the common goal of wanting to win, and that desire is vehemently expressed, you know that it is going to come through.”
