The India U-19 team has a majestic opening at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 as they thrashed Sri Lanka and Japan youths in their first two matches. The senior Indian cricketer, Rohit Sharma heaped praise and hoped that the young ‘Men in Blue’ will retain the title trophy.

In the 11th match of the ongoing premier tournament, Japan had the tough task of competing against India. However, it turned out to be a nightmarish innings for Marcus Thrugate-led team who were restricted by Indian bowlers for a tiny total. The team could not stand against the brute force of the Indian bowlers like Ravi Bishnoi, who was the most difficult for the team to face.

The leg-spinner Bishnoi took four wickets for just five runs, Kartik Tyagi scalped 3 for 10 runs while Akash Singh picked two wickets. Led by Priyam Garg, the Indian bowlers took the entire team out in less than 23 overs, restricting the team at mere 41 runs, owing to the 19 extras.

On the other hand, it took just 4.5 overs for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kumar Kushagra to chase down the measly target. Yashasvi swiftly scored 29 runs with five fours and a six in 18 balls while Kushagra aggregated 13 runs from 11 balls.

Rohit backs India U-19 to win U-19 World T20 as they qualify for

After thrashing the hapless debutant Japan youngsters, the young Men in Blue have almost qualified for the U-19 World Cup quarter-finals. The Defending Champions will next face New Zealand U19 on Friday, which will be their last match in this group stage (Group A).

However, the senior Indian cricketer, Rohit Sharma lauded the youngsters for the bewitching game against Japan. He prompted the four-times U19 CWC champions to retain their title.

Rohit, who is currently visiting New Zealand for a month-long series, tweeted:

“Best wishes to the under-19 cricket team in South Africa. They are already off to a great start, hope they can defend the title and bring it back.”
