Rohit Sharma Becomes First Batsman To Score Seven Consecutive Fifties In India

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has joined an elite list as he has become the first batsman to score seven straight fifties in India. The right-hander has been in fine form while playing in the home conditions. The veteran batsman had scored a fine century in the first innings as he had bagged his opening opportunity with both hands.
The flamboyant batsman had scored 176 runs and had scored his fourth century in the red ball version in first innings. On the other hand, Zimbabwe’s Everton Weekes had scored six half-centuries during 1948-49 in the Indian conditions. Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid had also scored six fifties during 1997-98 in the home conditions.
Rohit is on fire.
Meanwhile, Andy Flower who had a penchant for playing against India had also scored six fifties in the Indian conditions.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma also completed his fifth century in the red ball version. The right-hander scored a fine knock of 127 runs from 149 balls. Rohit also bagged another record to his name as he became the first batsman to score two centuries in the history of Test cricket while opening for the first time.
Thus, the veteran batsman has grabbed his opportunity to open the innings with both hands. The talismanic will like to continue his good form going.
Meanwhile, India is in a commanding position as they lead by 325 runs. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are currently batting and the hosts’ would like to give an imposing target to the visitors.
Cheteshwar Pujara who had an ordinary first innings was able to get off the blocks in the second dig. The solid batsman scored a fine knock of 81 runs from 148 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes. Pujara was plumbed in front by Vernon Philander.
However, Mayank Agarwal could not repeat his innings magic as he was dismissed for seven runs.
