Rohit Sharma: Mumbai Indians Started Preparing In June
His teammates and wife Ritika Sajdeh watched on him. He spoke about the highlights of Mumbai Indians season, pointing out the discipline they had showcased in the UAE as IPL 2020 was played in bio-secure conditions with players and support staff limiting their interaction with the outside world.
“Firstly, big congratulations to all of us. It was a great season for us, our season did not start in August, we started preparing way before. I remember it was during some tough times in June, we started preparing and it was never going to be easy,” Rohit Sharma said in a video clip shared by the franchise on social media.
“Once we came here, it was a new environment for us, not going outside the hotel but we were disciplined as a team and we were disciplined on the field as well that is why we stand with the IPL trophy.”
Mumbai Indians won their 5th IPL title after beating Delhi Capitals in a one-sided final on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma’s men became only the 2nd team to defend the title after Chennai Super Kings in 2011.

Likes of Mitchell McClenaghan, Aditya Tare, Chris Lynn, Anmolpreet Singh, Anukul Roy and Sherfane Rutherford didn’t play a single game whereas Jayant Yadav and Dhawal Kulkarni had limited opportunities. “Guys who haven’t gotten to play at all in this tournament, I would like to thank them for their constant energy, they were quite positive and we never felt like that they were disappointed to not be in the playing XI.”
Rohit Sharma also was full of praise for the team doctors and physios, saying it was their herculean efforts that helped him overcome the hamstring injury and make an earlier-than-expected recovery. Rohit Sharma was left out from India’s squads for Australia tour after he picked up the injury in October and was in danger of missing out the remainder of the IPL season. Rohit Sharma was added to Test squad after recovering.
However, he came back in the last league match and 1st Qualifier besides the final where he led Mumbai Indians to glory with a match-winning knock of 68. The Mumbai Indians skipper has been rested from the ODI and T20I series, but he will join the India squad in Australia for the four-Test series, starting December 17.
