Rohit gains the fame after he got the opportunity to open the innings for India. Since then, he has played many scintillating knocks for the team and led the side to win big matches.
In a conversation with Kevin Pietersen during an Instagram interaction, Rohit revealed what he considers was the lowest point of his career with the Indian national team.

Rohit answering the question of Pietersen, he said that his snub from the 2011 World Cup squad was the saddest part of his career.
The hit-man Rohit Sharma admitted that at that time his performance was not up to the mark which led his ouster from the mega event.
“Not getting picked for the 2011 World Cup squad, that was the saddest moment as it was happening in our own backyard, the final was played at my home ground, ” Rohit replied.

In 2011, the MS Dhoni-led side won the World Cup after beating Sri Lanka in the finals at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
India lifted the coveted trophy for the first time since the maiden triumph in 1983.
Although, the opening batsman, now, is the major player of the Indian team across all the formats. In the last World Cup, Rohit has scored five centuries in his name and was the highest scorer for the team.
