The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has consistently faced huge criticism for his weak performances in international cricket. Rohit Sharma, the limited-overs vice-captain, has slammed the media for too much criticising the youngster.
Rishabh Pant made his international cricket debut in February 2017 through the T20I cricket. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman made his Test and ODI debuts in the second half of 2018. Till the date, he has already played 13 Tests, 16 ODIs and 28 T20Is.
In his early international career, Pant impressed with his aggressive batting. The left-handed batsman also hit two away Test centuries (one in England and one in Australia) and both came at the crucial situations. His early impressive performances opened up more chances in international cricket.
In 2019, Pant got the bigger roles in the national team as he gradually became the first choice wicketkeeper of the Indian national cricket team in every format due to the absence of the senior wicketkeepers. However, the youngster failed to handle those pressures as his form was falling consistently. Though he was getting good starts for some times, he was throwing his wicket due to the poor shot selections and sometimes it badly hurt the Indian team.
Due to his inconsistent performances, Pant has lost his spot from the Indian playing XI in every format. However, the Indian team management still has enough confidence in this young wicketkeeper-batsman. Rohit Sharma has recently confirmed this Indian team image on Pant.
Rohit Sharma also requested the fans to keep faith in the youngsters
Rohit believes that Pant is still at a very young age and he doesn’t deserve too many criticisms. The Indian opener feels that the media should think before writing negatively about the youngster.
Defending Pant, Rohit said during the Instagram Live with the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, “Media should think before writing something.”
Rohit also requested the fans to keep faith in Pant and the other youngsters. The limited-overs vice-captain also works with the youngsters as he wants to guide them to a better future.
