The big positive news for the Indian team of the day is that their batting mainstay Rohit Sharma has passed the fitness assessment test. The opening batsman had not travelled with Team India to Australia because of the hamstring injury and was recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Although he has passed the fitness test, he won’t be available for the first two Tests because of the 14-days mandatory quarantine rule in Australia. But he is likely to feature in the last two Test matches of the series, which will be played in Sydney and Brisbane respectively.

“He (Rohit) has passed the fitness test and the future course of action will be decided by the BCCI and the selection committee,” the source in the know of developments said as quoted by Yahoo Cricket.

The renowned cricket journalist Vikrant Gupta confirmed the same and added that Rohit Sharma would fly for Australia on the 14th of this month. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made an official announcement.

As Virat Kohli will be missing the last three Tests, his inclusion is given the Indian team a big sigh of relief. However, as he has been away from the game for one month, it will be interesting to see if he is match-ready.

Earlier, Team India’s captain had revealed that there was a lack of communication between him and the board over the hitman’s injury. His statement has created a huge hullabaloo around Rohit’s injury management.

Rohit Sharma had sustained a hamstring injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. He missed a couple of matches but returned to play the last league stage matches and playoffs. He even played in the grand-finale and scored a match-winning half-century to take Mumbai Indians to win the fifth IPL title.
