In the opening game of the T20I series against the hosts New Zealand, Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma took a smart catch at boundary to end the dangerous opening partnership.
On Friday (24th January), New Zealand and India are playing the first game of the five-match T20I series at Eden Park (Auckland). After winning the toss, the visiting captain Virat Kohli decided to field first.
The New Zealand openers, Martin Guptill and Colin Munro, provided a perfect start as they were smashing the visiting bowlers easily. They completed the 50 runs partnership in just 27 balls. In the powerplay, New Zealand managed to score 68/0.
Rohit Sharma was fully aware in the boundary line
The dangerous-looking opening partnership soon reached to 80 runs before Rohit Sharma’s smart catch finally brought a smile to the Indian side. It was the first over of Shivam Dube and eighth over of that innings when India finally managed to pick up a wicket.
After conceding seven runs in the first four balls, Dube delivered a slower ball to Guptill, and the Kiwi opener went for a pull. The ball travelled to the mid-wicket boundary where Rohit Sharma was standing. Soon after taking a superb catch, Rohit checked the boundary rope and released the ball in the air just before touching the rope. He soon adjusted his position and comfortably caught that ball for the final time.
That smart fielding resulted in Guptill’s dismissal, who was batting on 30 runs off 19 balls (4 fours and one sixer).
