India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead Board President’s XI in the three-day match against South Africa before the Test series. Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal are the only two players in Board President’s XI who are also part of the 15-member squad for the senior team.
In fact, the dual will also open the innings for the Indian national cricket team in the first Test match. Struggling KL Rahul is dropped after ordinary performances. MSK Prasad, chief selector confirmed that Rohit Sharma will play as the opener. The flamboyant batsman has been in sublime limited-overs form. Hence, he would like to take the same form to the multi-day format.
Rohit Sharma will get an opportunity to open.
On the other hand, Abhimanyu Easwaran gets a place in the Board’s President XI side. Easwaran has been in fine form in the recent past and has delivered consistent performances in the domestic circuit.
Karun Nair, who has been a bit unlucky also gets a place in the President XI side. Nair had a great run in the Duleep Trophy. Thus, he would like to keep knocking on the doors of national selection.
Umesh Yadav who is dropped from the national side also gets a chance in the President XI side. Furthermore, Ishan Porel, Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan will accompany Umesh Yadav in the pace bowling line-up. The three-day match will be played at Vizianagaram from September 26.
