The national selectors are likely to announce the Indian Test squad for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa on Thursday (12th September). Rohit Sharma is going to be one of the crucial talking points during the selection meeting. Before the team announcement, the hitman Rohit Sharma is trending on Twitter.
The 32-year-old Rohit Sharma is one of the top in-form batsmen in limited-overs cricket. Since he has taken the opening batting responsibility in limited-overs cricket, Rohit has grown up hugely. At present, Rohit is the no.2-ranked ODI batsman.

Now for a long time, Rohit is performing consistently in limited-overs cricket. At the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the right-handed opening batsman was the leading run-scorer. He scored 648 runs (nine innings) in that tournament with an average of 81.00. The right-handed batsman hit five centuries in that tournament, including three successive centuries.
However, Rohit Sharma’s Test career isn’t shining like his limited-overs career. Though he is known as one of the talented batsmen in India, he has mostly disappointed in Test cricket.

After making Test debut in November 2013, Rohit scored centuries in both the first two Test innings. But then he has failed to maintain his familiar quality in Test cricket.
Rohit has scored 1,585 runs in 47 Test innings (27 matches) with an average of 39.62. While he mostly batted as a middle-order batsman, it is not a bad picture. But his inconsistency in Test cricket has put him in trouble, especially he has struggled against the top-ranked Test teams.
Rohit Sharma is likely to replace the Test opener KL Rahul
But the present situation is different in the Indian Test side. At present, the team management is struggling to find out the proper opening partners. Moreover, KL Rahul‘s continuous poor form in Test cricket is forcing him to out from the Test side.

According to the latest media reports, the national selectors are likely to drop KL Rahul from the Test squad for the forthcoming home Test series against South Africa. The reports also added that the selectors can consider Rohit Sharma as the opener during this Test series. The limited-overs vice-captain Rohit hasn’t opened in Test cricket yet.
As Rohit is an in-form opener in limited-overs cricket for a long time, the national selectors now want to watch him as a Test opener.
Before the Test team selection, Rohit Sharma is trending on Twitter. Here are some of the twitter reactions:
Finally we can see what Dada predicted long back – give chance to Rohit Sharma in the red ball format. He can give you what Viru gave. But let’s not expect too high right now.@ImRo45 can be opening in the Tests against SA. ?????#INDvSA @SGanguly99https://t.co/Ai9cNKoajo

Selection committee meet today. Very likely @ImRo45 will be picked as Test opener and will be given the next few matches to establish himself in the position.

Have some reservations about Rohit Sharma opening the innings in Tests. Sanjay Bangar recently spoke about how hard it is to shift from proactive, anticipatory T20 (and to an extent, ODI) mode, to reactive, discretionary Test mode. Just look at the Jason Roy experiment.#INDVSA
