Indian team is getting ready to restart their international cricket in the Australia tour this week. Before the beginning of this important tour, former Indian left-arm pacer RP Singh revealed his predictions for the complete India tour of Australia.
While India haven’t played an international match since last March, they will restart the international cricket with the three-match ODI series against the hosts Australia, starting from this Friday (27th November). Then they will play three-match T20I series between 4th and 8th December.
India will finish this Australia tour with the four-match Test series that will run between 17th December 2020 and 19th January 2021. While the ODI series will be part of the inaugural ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, the Test series will be part of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship.
In T20Is and ODIs, I don’t think there is a probability of Australia winning: RP Singh
Though India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will definitely miss the limited-overs series in Australia, the 34-year-old RP Singh is confident enough about India’s success in the limited-overs series against the mighty hosts. Singh believes that Virat Kohli-led present Indian team is very strong than the present Aussie side in the limited-overs formats.
However, RP Singh added that the Test series would be very different as India would get a tough fight from the hosts Australia.
RP Singh told IANS, “In T20Is and ODIs, I don’t think there is a probability of Australia winning. Our team is doing very well, and we are far ahead of Australia in these two formats. But India will get a fight in the Test series. It is a different format and we will have to work hard and differently.”
Indian captain Virat Kohli will play the complete limited-overs series and the first Test in the Australia tour. Kohli will miss the last three Tests of this tour due to the paternity leave. Moreover, the availability of Rohit Sharma and right-arm pacer Ishant Sharma are highly doubtful for the Test series in the Australia tour as they are still in the recovery process from their respective injuries.
However, RP Singh still believes that India has higher chances to win the Test series in Australia due to having a better-balanced team. The former left-arm pacer also praised both Indian and Australian pace-bowling line-ups.
He added, “The chances of India winning are higher than Australia’s, but it will be an equal fight. I think the bowling departments of both teams are equal, as Australia have pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. But I think India has the upper hand in batting department. Our bowling department, including Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, is very good and it will surely surprise the Australians. Even our bench is very good. And if you look at the team balance, India is a much better-balanced team.”
In the last Australia tour during 2018/19 summer, India won their first-ever ODI and Test bilateral series in Australia (they won both those series by the 2-1 margin), while the three-match T20I series had the draw result by the 1-1 margin.
