As the South African team arrived back home from Bangladesh, CSA announced fourteen member squads and tour itinerary respectively for two match T20 and three match ODI series against New Zealand.
A few key players rested for the series, while ODI and T20 wicket keeper Quinton de Kock is ruled out from the team due to off-form and injury in the Bangladesh tour. Now, as a of replacement for de Kock, 36 year old wicket keeper batsman Morne van Wyk, who is known for blitzkrieg batting, is selected for the series.
In the New Zealand series AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn will back in the 50 over format since they rested from the ODI series aganist Bangladesh.
While journalists asked CSA coach Russel Domingo that is South Africa over dependent on de Villiers as SA lost the ODI series to Bangladesh after de Villiers departureed playing the first ODI in which South Africa were victorious. The 40 year old snapped the notion said , “I don’t think so, I think we had a couple of bad innings.”
About wicket keeper de Kock, Domingo, who is not happy with the 22 year old performance said, “maybe some time away from the team will do him some good, get that hunger back.”
When asked why 36 old van Wyk has been selected for the series, Domingo said, “Brad Hogg played for Aus at 41,we think Morne is a good option for us. Yes, he might be a short term option “
Meanwhile, all rounder JP Duminy and Morne Morkel is given leave by CSA from the series as their wives are pegnant and will soon give birth.
“There’s a fine line between resting a player too long & over-bowling them. When an opportunity comes to rest our fast bowlers,we will ,” Russel Domingo said.
Wayne Parnell, Chris Morris, Rayn McLaren are dropped from the ODI series for their bad performance in Bangaldesh.
Imran Tahir, who is currently in England is playing county cricket for Natt Outlaws, called in the team for the ODI duty. Along with him, medium pacer Vernon Philander, who played the Test series in Bangladesh, in the ODI team for the NZ series.
28 year old leg spinner Eddie Leie, who made his debut against Bangladesh in the two matches T20 series, playe one match and too three wicket feature in the NZ T20 series as well.
South Africa coach Russel Domingo while attending the arrival press comference said South Africa still mourning for the World Cup dissopointment.
“The disappointment of the WC will stay with many South Africans for a long time, but I think the team are moving on,” Domingo stated.
