SA vs BAN 2017: Faf Du Plessis Aims for Another Dominant Show in Bloemfontein

After humiliating Mushfiqur Rahim-led Bangladesh side by 333 runs at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom owing to the all-round performance, South African skipper Faf du Plessis has vowed to keep performing as a unit while urging his teammates — to deliver solid performance in the second and final Test which is beginning from October 6 in Bloemfontein.

“We want to deliver another dominant performance,” du Plessis was quoted as saying by Cricket South Africa.

Ahead of the second Test after having an unassailable lead of 1-0 in Test series, the 33-year-old du Plessis was speaking to the media gathering at Mangaung Oval when he stated the players are supposed to replicate their Potchefstroom for the world No. 2 Test side.

“We played the perfect game. It’s important that we build on it and strive to deliver the best,” du Plessis remarked.

Following the thumping victory, du Plessis expressed his satisfaction while adding the performance has boosted the morale of the players after losing the four-match series 3-1 held between July and August.

“We were brilliant in Potch [Potchefstroom] for 5 days. There was not one session that belonged to Bangladesh. We must be honest with ourselves,” du Plessis added.

The prominent figure in the Proteas national fold, du Plessis wants his player to end the series with the 2-0 victory over struggling visitors, as he further believes the hosts should beat the visiting side which is capable of throwing a surprise.

“In these conditions it is important that we beat Bangladesh convincingly. In this game it is also important that we stay steady,” du Plessis asserted.

However, the senior campaigner du Plessis admitted the fact the Tigers has become a strong force to reckon, as he further explained keeping things under control would yield the desired results for hosts.

“Yes, they may be dangerous at times, but we must keep them under pressure and limit their opportunities,” du Plessis further added.

As the Bloemfontein surface is expected to be helpful for the fast bowlers, the injury to lanky pacer Morne Morkel added to the long-list of bowling woes for the Proteas.

“It is important to maintain balance in the team, but we still want to keep a good bowling attack,” du Plessis said.

Adding the miseries for the captain and eventually the national selectors, Proteas management would be eyeing to induct a fast bowler Dane Paterson, who was called in as a replacement for Morkel after the latter nursed a side strain which eventually left him out for around six weeks.

“It’s hard to get out of Morne. We want to make sure that the bowling attack continues to be dangerous,” du Plessis concluded.

Du Plessis further expresses a huge concern, as the injury has plagued the fast bowling line-up in the recent past and he further wants to test the promising prospects before taking on India in the much important series kick starting from January 5.
