India’s batting phenom Sachin Tendulkar has always been one of the calmest personalities on the field. Over an illustrious cricketing career that lasted nearly a quarter of a century, Sachin ensured to conduct himself with dignity, grace and discipline. Needless to say, there were some rare occurrences when he lost his temper under pressure.
Sachin Tendulkar recalled an incident when he lost his temper during India versus Australia game in the Coca Cola Cup at Sharjah on April 22, 1998. Team India was chasing a competitive total of 285 runs at Sharjah. With the desert storm interrupting the passage of play, the Indian team got a revised target of 276 runs with four overs less to chase.
Sachin Tendulkar took the onus upon himself only to get Team India across the finishing line in such a crucial encounter. Although Sachin ended up scoring a marvellous century, which Australia eventually won by a margin of 26 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar reveals an incident when he lost his cool at VVS Laxman
Sachin disclosed an incident when he ended up shouting at a young VVS Laxman during that game. The Little Master totally lost it under pressure.
“I remember that a couple of times by emotions came out and I ended up shouting at Laxman ‘Run two, it’s my call why aren’t you running?” Sachin said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman constructed 104 runs for the fifth wicket before the Master Blaster got out on 143 off 131 balls.
“I received a scolding from my brother as soon as I reached home. He told me ‘these sort of things shouldn’t happen in the ground. He’s your teammate, he’s also playing for the team. It’s not your match alone; he’s also playing with you. I got a bit of hiding at home,” Sachin added in a statement.
In my mind, I always wanted to win that game: Sachin Tendulkar
“In my mind, I always wanted to win that game and qualify to the finals as a victorious team because I knew it might play a mental role. There is a difference if you just qualify and when you qualify by beating them. So there the mind games start and obviously my first attempt was to win that game and if and when it was not possible then the second thought was always to qualify and try and beat then in the finals but that was the whole idea,” Sachin Tendulkar added in a statement.
Eventually, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar got his revenge on Australia as he went on to hit a century in the cup final and gave India a memorable title.
