On This Day: Sachin Tendulkar Scored The Only Hundred Of His IPL Career

Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t played many T20 International games but he has been part of the most popular T20 league i.e, Indian Premier League (IPL). His best knock in the IPL came on 15th April in 2011 at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), which two weeks ago had hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final.

During that special match against Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Sachin Tendulkar added another record in his career and became the first Indian captain to score an IPL hundred. Earlier, Kerala won the toss and opted to field first. They got the early wicket of MI opener Davy Jacobs (12) but Sachin and Ambati Rayudu set themselves on the field.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Ton set a fighting target of 183 runs:

MI captain Tendulkar played an amazing innings but he was also given many lives. He survived a run-out and Kerela bowler Vinay Kumar appealed two lbws which were turned down by the umpires. However, he scored a 66-ball century (100*) and stitched up a partnership of 116 runs with Rayudu (53) for the second wicket.

Well, Sachin’s contribution went into vain. Though they have set the target of 183 runs, they failed to defend it. Kerela openers Mahela Jayawardene and Brendon McCullum gave a brilliant start to the team. They added 128 runs for the first wicket before Mahela lost his wicket at 56 runs.

Later, McCullum was also bowled by the speedster Lasith Malinga. He was out after scoring 81 runs off 60 balls. Ravindra Jadeja and Brad Hodge took the game to the finishing point as the Tuskers won the game by eight wickets with six balls to spare.

Sachin’s that ton remains his best score in T20 cricket. He amassed a total of 2334 runs in 78 games in his IPL career at an average of 34.83, including 13 fifties and a hundred. He was the highest scorer (618 runs) in the IPL 2010 as he won the Orange Cap in that edition.
