On Sunday (12th May), former Pakistan Women’s captain Sana Mir becomes the most wicket-taker as a spinner in women’s ODI history.

During the third and final women’s ODI of the three-match ODI series between the host South Africa Women and Pakistan Women at Benoni, Pakistan off-spinner Sana Mir picked up her 147th ODI wicket and became the most successful spinner in women’s ODI history. She achieved this feat after dismissing South African captain Sune Luus (80 runs). With that wicket, she surpassed the off-spinner Anisa Mohammed (Windies Women) and former off-spinner Lisa Sthalekar (Australia Women) who have picked up 146 ODI wickets each.

Meanwhile, Sana Mir also becomes the third most wicket-taker in women’s ODI history. She is now behind of the Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami (218 ODI wickets) and the former Australian pacer Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180 ODI wickets).

Match finished in a thrilling tie

As the series was standing at 1-1 before this final ODI, it was the series-decider match and it had a thrilling tie result. After winning the toss, Pakistan Women’s captain Bismah Maroof decided to field first.

The host side South Africa Women managed to score 265/6 in 50 overs. While their openers Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt scored 57 and 56 runs respectively, captain Luus (80 runs) was the highest run-scorer in that innings.

Meanwhile, medium-pacer Aliya Riaz (10-1-49-2) was the only bowler for Pakistan Women to take more than one wicket in that innings. Sana Mir had the bowling figures of 10-0-53-1.

In reply, Javeria Khan (74 runs) and Aliya Riaz (71 runs) played crucial innings that helped Pakistan Women to save that match.

In the final over, Pakistan Women needed to score 12 runs (with two wickets in hand) to win that match. The visiting team managed to score 11 runs (including a single on the last ball) and lost one wicket in that final over. Pakistan Women finally scored 265/9 (50 overs) and that match finished in a thrilling tie. It is also the highest second-innings ODI total for Pakistan Women.
