Recently, the Indian young wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson spent the good times in the dressing room of the Indian national cricket team. Though he hasn’t got much chance to serve the national team yet, Samson claimed that he learned a lot by spending enough times with the top senior cricketers.
Sanju Samson made his debut for India during the Harare T20I against Zimbabwe on 19th July 2015. Since late 2019, Samson was included in the national team, but he didn’t get a fresh chance in that year. In early 2020, Samson played three T20Is for India. However, the youngster hasn’t much impressed with his performances in the national team yet.

In the recent interview with TOI, Samson opened up his situation during his more than four years of waiting to earn the second opportunity to play for India. After his international debut in 2015, the young wicketkeeper-batsman faced many ups and downs as he was challenged a lot of times mentally. He used the tough times as the fuel of his motivation to grow up himself and make eligible again for the Indian team.
Samson told TOI, “As you know I am a person who always likes to look at the positives. After my debut at the age of 20, there were lots of ups and downs. I was challenged mentally a lot of times. I saw myself sitting on the bench for even my state team and I was nowhere in the picture for India ‘A’ teams too at times. But those were the tough times that I used to fuel my motivation and pull myself up to play for India again.”
To be a part of the world’s best cricket team is not a small thing: Sanju Samson
While Samson spent a lot of time on the bench of the Indian team, he was focusing on the positive sides in those days. He tried to learn many things by observing the legendary cricketers like the skipper Virat Kohli and the limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma. He feels that it is a huge thing to be a part of the world’s best cricket team like India.

Samson further added, “I looked at the brighter side of things. I got to share the dressing room with legends like Virat bhai and Rohit bhai and there is a lot to learn from them even if we just observe the way they handle themselves on and off the ground. And then to be a part of the world’s best cricket team is not a small thing.”
While Sanju Samson has played four T20Is, where the right-handed batsman has scored just 35 runs (average 8.75), he hasn’t made the debuts in the other two formats in international cricket.
