Sarfaraz Ahmed, Babar Azam

Sarfaraz Ahmed will continue to lead the Pakistan national cricket team in the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Babar Azam as the vice-captain for the both upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has a schedule to play three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series against Pakistan in Pakistan from 27th September to 9th October 2019. After the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus at Lahore, Sri Lanka have played only T20I in Pakistan and that was in 2017. Now, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has agreed to compete in the full limited-overs series in Pakistan.

However, ten Sri Lankan players have withdrawn their names from this tour. The SLC has already named the inexperienced ODI and T20I squads for forthcoming Pakistan tour.

The PCB will announce the final 16-member ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka series on 23rd September. However, before that, they will announce the 19-member probable squad for both these series on 16th September. After that probable squad, the PCB will organise a camp at the National Cricket Academy from 18th September.

The PCB has still faith in Sarfaraz Ahmed

On Friday (13th September), the PCB has confirmed that Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain as captain for the upcoming limited-overs series.

On the other hand, Pakistan is the no.6-ranked ODI team and no.1-ranked T20I team. The upcoming home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka will be the first international assignment for the new head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and new bowling coach Waqar Younis.
