One of the senior members of the Indian cricket team, who was a part of World Cup squad, has come under the scanner for violating the team rules. As per a report in PTI, the player had requested the Committee of Administrators (COA) to let his wife stay with him for the full duration of the tournament. COA did not allow the player to let his wife stay in England.
Despite that, the wife of the senior player continued to be in England without the permission of captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri. For now, the name of the senior player has not been revealed but it might come out in public if BCCI takes an action against that player.
As per the rule, players’ wives were allowed to be with their husbands for a period of 15 days. In past as well, BCCI hasn’t allowed WAGS to stay with cricketers for the full period and instead, they have been allowed to be with their husbands for few weeks.
Few teams allowed the WAGS to stay with their husbands, but that wasn’t the case with Indian team. It remains to be seen if the board takes an action against that player.
Team India crashed out of the tournament from the semi-final stage after losing to New Zealand. The two-day affair saw New Zealand post a total of 239 on the board. India were favourites to chase down the target of 240 but they fell short by a margin of 18 runs.
Men in Blue had a poor start as they lost their first three wickets on a score of 5. Ravindra Jadeja did raise hopes for India but in the end, New Zealand made it their second consecutive final.
The Black Caps were unfortunate not to win the title. The final of World Cup 2019 ended in a tie and to add to the drama, the super over also ended in a tie. In the end, England were adjudged as the winner for scoring more boundaries than New Zealand.
