Shahadat Hossain Faces Five-Year Ban After Hitting His Teammate
The 33-year-old Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain has been handed five-year ban, with two-year of suspension, for hitting his teammate Arafat Sunny Jr during a recent domestic match at Khulna.
It was the four-day Tier 1, National Cricket League (NCL) match between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division. On the second day of that match, Dhaka Division right-arm pacer Shahadat Hossain had a hot argument with the 24-year-old Arafat Sunny Jr over shining the ball. During that argument, Shahadat Hossain hit Sunny for refusing to shine the ball.
According to the ESPNcricinfo report, the other players needed to interfere to stop Shahadat.
It was the Level 4 offence as he was taken off immediately and he wasn’t available for the rest of the game. Later, the right-arm pacer accepted the match referee’s verdict.
Shahadat Hossain has been also fined of Taka 3 lakh
Now, the NCL’s technical committee has taken the strict action on Shahadat Hossain. Apart from the ban with suspension, the pacer has been also fined of Taka 3 lakh. The pacer can appeal against the suspension by 26th November.
The chief selector and a member of NCL committee, Minhajul Abedin stated, “We have banned Shahadat Hossain for five years with two years of suspended sentence. He can appeal by November 26. He has been reported with a Level 4 offence, based upon which the technical committee took the decision.
“What he did was very unfortunate. These incidents keep happening. BCB has a zero-tolerance policy for these things. No player will be spared. We have considered his previous history before taking this decision. It should serve as an example for all cricketers.”
Shahadat Hossain batted in the first innings where he was not out on 0 runs. During Khulna Division’s first innings of that match, Shahadat had the bowling figures of 12-2-30-0 before he was taken off. His team Dhaka Division lost that game by nine wickets.
From 2005 to 2015, Shahadat Hossain has played 38 Tests, 51 ODIs and six T20Is for Bangladesh where he has taken 72, 47 and four wickets respectively.
In 2015, Shahadat Hossain was arrested for beating his housemaid.
