Caribbean cricketer Sheldon Cottrell created history in the last home ODI against Ireland but with his bat. He became the first no.11 batsman to finish a successful with a sixer.
On last Thursday (9th January), West Indies and Ireland played a thrilling ODI at Bridgetown. It was the second game of the three-match ODI series while the hosts were leading this series by 1-0 before that match. Chasing down the 238 runs target in that second ODI, West Indies were once in deep trouble as they were struggling on 148/7.
Hayden Walsh played a massive role to change the situation of that game with impressive partnerships with the responsible tail-enders. Sheldon Cottrell joined Walsh in the 48th over when the hosts were battling on 232/9, and they still needed to score six more runs to win that game.

The last over had huge drama where the hosts had to score five more runs to win that game. Ireland missed two easy run-out opportunities, and Cottrell was the target man in both those cases. West Indies needed to score two more runs in the final two balls of that game while Cottrell was facing right-arm pacer Mark Adair, batting on one run off five balls.
It was a full delivery outside off where the right-handed batsman Sheldon Cottrell swung his bat, and his shot travelled over the cover for the match-winning sixer. With that shot, Cottrell created history by becoming the first no.11 batsman to finish a successful ODI chasing with a sixer.
