On Thursday (21st November), the national selectors will announce the limited-overs squads for the upcoming home series against Windies. We can see some crucial changes in the national squad.
It is going to be the three-match T20I series and three-match ODI series between the hosts India and the visiting side Windies. They will play the T20Is on 6th December (at Mumbai), 8th December (at Thiruvananthapuram) and 11th December (at Hyderabad).
After this T20I series, they will meet in the ODI series as these matches will be played on 15th December (at Chennai), 18th December (at Vishakhapatnam) and 22nd December (at Cuttack).
We can see some important changes in the Indian squads for these limited-over series. According to some news sources, Rohit Sharma is likely to take rest in the ODI series against Windies. It is a very busy year for the Indian limited-overs vice-captain as he is playing almost non-stop cricket from the beginning of this year.
Indian captain Virat Kohli may return to the limited-overs squads. He took rest from the recently concluded home T20I series against Bangladesh which Rohit Sharma-led India won by the 2-1 margin.
ABP News has recently claimed that Krishnappa Gowtham and Axar Patel can be added in the T20I squad against Windies while Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar can be released from the squad.
The young wicketkeeping-batsman Rishabh Pant may get another opportunity in the limited-overs squads but his position is in serious danger. Even he can miss some matches during the back-to-back upcoming home limited-overs series against Windies.
The left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is struggling to find his familiar form
Shikhar Dhawan is going to be another important talking point in the forthcoming selection meeting. The 33-year-old left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan made a positive start in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. But a thumb fracture forced him to miss out most of that tournament as he was ruled out from that tournament.
After returning from the injury, Shikhar Dhawan has got some good runs. However, his strike-rate has gone down as the left-handed batsman is struggling to score quick runs.
Shikhar Dhawan is currently busy in the domestic T20 tournament, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019/20. But his performances are not impressive as he has scored 0, 9, 19 and 35 runs respectively for his team Delhi.
However, the selectors can give another crucial chance to Shikhar Dhawan before thinking his removal from the limited-overs squads.
