Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan made a great start for India A in the fourth unofficial ODI against South Africa A. However, the rain has forced to stretch this game to the reserve-day.

In the five-match unofficial ODI series between India A and South Africa A in India, India A have already secured this series by winning the first three games. On Wednesday (4th September),  they met in the fourth game of this series at Thiruvananthapuram.

After winning the toss, India A captain Shreyas Iyer decided to field first. The visitors made a great start as the openers Matthew Breetzke and Reeza Hendricks provided a 58-run partnership. While Breetzke lost his wicket on 25 runs, Hendricks continued to guide the visitors’ innings.

On the 22nd over, when South A were batting on 108/1, the rain-interrupted that innings. Finally, it cut down to the 25-over contest. Captain Temba Bavuma was retired hurt on 28 runs off 39 balls.

They finally managed 137/1 in 25 overs while Hendricks remained not out on 60 runs off 70 balls (six fours and only six). The wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen was also not out on 21 runs off 12 balls (three sixes).

Only, the leg-spinner Rahul Chahar (1/18) managed to pick up a wicket in that innings. As per VJD rules, India A had to chase 193 runs.

Chasing down that challenging target, opener Shubman Gill (12 runs) lost his wicket cheaply. However, the other opener Shikhar Dhawan made a good start and remained not out on 34 runs off 21 balls (six fours) before another rain-interruption happened. Prashant Chopra was batting at the other end as he scored six not out.

Before that final rain-interruption, India A managed to score 56/1 in 7.4 overs. India A still need to score 137 runs in 17.2 overs which they will chase on Thursday (5th September) morning.
