Shikhar Dhawan, the dashing opener of Delhi Capitals acknowledged that it was advantageous to face left-handed spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the final over where 17 runs were required to win against CSK.
Pacer Dwayne Bravo was injured after bowling 3 overs, and the other bowlers except for spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Karn Sharma had completed their quota.
Shikhar Dhawan And Axar Patel Being Left-Handers Had Advantage Against Ravindra Jadeja Who Bowled Last Over
Ravindra Jadeja was given the ball, and left-handed Axar Patel hit him for 3 sixes to give DC yet another win as they go atop the points table. Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten on 101 while Axar Patel scored an unbeaten 21 off only five balls.
“We knew (Dwayne) Bravo would not be able to bowl the last over and it would be bowled by Jadeja. We being left-handers, we had a certain advantage against Jadeja,” Shikhar Dhawan said at the post-match press conference.
“Sam Curran bowled well very in the 19th over, his yorker execution was very good, dew was also there and we took advantage of that as well,” Dhawan said.
“Axar Patel has been a great asset, whenever we demand good overs from him, he does the job. He is normally very economical. Having a quality all-rounder makes a big difference,” he added.
“I was always focussing on my process. I was playing well. I stayed positive and confident. Lots of experience behind me, changed the numbers as well.
“Every time I am scoring runs, I am making mistakes as well. I was analysing what to do, what shot to play and what not to play. I pick and choose what shots to play or strategy I should use on different kind of pitches.”
Sam Curran conceded only 4 runs in the penultimate over while Dwayne Bravo walked off with a groin injury as skipper MS Dhoni handed the ball to Ravindra Jadeja as the pacers had already finished their quota. The last over went for 22 runs. Deepak Chahar returned with figures of 2/18 in 4 overs while the rest were too expensive, leaking runs at more than 7 per over.
