Though India suffered the discouraging whitewash in the away ODI series against the hosts New Zealand, the solid middle-order batting was one of the big positive points for the Indian team. The leading run-scorer of the series, Shreyas Iyer thanked everyone for supporting.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer both were positive performers in both the T20I and ODI series of this tour. While KL Rahul finished as the most run-scorer in the five-match T20I series (224 runs), he was the second most run-getter in the three-match ODI series (204 runs).

In the meantime, while Iyer finished as the second-most run-scorer for India and fifth-most overall run-scorer in the T20I series of this tour (153 runs), he became the leading run-scorer in the ODI series (217 runs). Iyer registered 50+ score in all the three ODIs of this New Zealand tour as he scored 103, 52 and 62 runs respectively.

India’s middle-order batting was a big concern, including the no.4 batting position. Shreyas Iyer has hugely impressed with his consistent performances in the no.4 batting position. While he has played only 16 ODI innings, the right-handed batsman has registered nine 50+ scores, including one century. Iyer has scored 748 runs in ODI career with an average of 49.86.

We keep working hard – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has signed off the New Zealand tour with the ODI series defeat. In his social media post after the end of the ODI series, Iyer claimed that he learned a lot from this series. He also thanked everyone for keeping support.

He wrote, “Lots to learn and lots to take away from this series. We keep working hard. Thank you for the continued support.”

Apart from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey is also playing very positive cricket in the middle-order batting in limited-overs cricket. Though Pandey is getting lesser and limited opportunities, he is performing well according to the situation and mostly playing the finisher roles.
