Shreyas Iyer Put His Name To The Special Record After Slamming Another T20 Century
Before the IPL 2019, Shreyas Iyer is running in an excellent batting form. Once again he hit a T20 century and also put his name to the top of record list.
Just a few days ago, the Mumbai cricketer played a record-breaking T20 innings of 147 runs against Sikkim in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It was the highest T20 knock by an Indian batsman as he broke the record of Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 128-run knock in the last IPL season. In that latest record-breaking T20 innings, Shreyas Iyer hit seven boundaries and 15 over-boundaries.
On Sunday (24 February), Shreyas Iyer hit another T20 century in the same tournament. Playing against Madhya Pradesh in the Group C encounter, the Mumbai batsman this time scored another match-winning unbeaten 103 runs. Chasing down the 144-run target, Mumbai lost their both openers on just seven runs on the board. Opener Prithvi Shaw scored a golden duck while the other opener Ajinkya Rahane lost his wicket on only one run.
However, Shreyas Iyer soon took control of that innings and provided a 138-run unbroken partnership with Suryakumar Yadav for the unbroken third wicket to secure the eight-wicket victory for his team. Shreyas Iyer guided his side with his second T20 century and remained not out on 103 runs off 55 balls. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav played an unbeaten knock of 39 runs off 36 balls.
The special record from Shreyas Iyer
During his latest century knock, Shreyas Iyer hit five boundaries and ten over-boundaries. With this special knock, Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian batsman to hit 10 or more sixes in a T20 innings for three times. In overall, only Chris Gayle has hit more times from Shreyas Iyer as the left-handed batsman has achieved it for 17 times. Also, Andre Russell and Evin Lewis have hit 10 or more sixes in a T20 innings for three times.
