Continuing his impressive form, Shreyas Iyer once again hit a half-century in the Mount Maunganui ODI and created a world record in ODI cricket history.
It was the third and final ODI of the series between the hosts New Zealand and the visitors India. After losing the toss, the Indian top-orders lost their wickets at the early stage of the first innings.
Struggling on 62/3, Shreyas Iyer put the 100 runs partnership with the wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. Even in the tough situation, Iyer performed strongly and registered his third successive 50+ scores. In the ongoing series, after scoring 103 and 52 runs, the right-handed batsman played another strong cricket in this game and completed half-century in 52 balls.

After reaching that half-century, Shreyas Iyer created a world record as he became the new record holder of the highest percentage of 50+ scores in ODI career (minimum 10 innings). While the latest knock was his ninth ODI 50+ score out of 16 ODI innings, his percentage of ODI 50+ scores was 56.2. However, Iyer has scored only one ODI century, and that was too in the opening game of this series.
During the latest innings, Iyer broke the record of former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell. While Chappell played the ODIs between 1971 and 1980, he registered eight 50+ scores in 16 ODI innings (all were half-centuries).
