India Test cricketer Shubman Gill has been named in Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad, that starts on September 24. Gill will not be available for the full tournament as he is a part of the three-match Test series against South Africa, that kicks off on October 2.

Though he is expected to be available for at least two matches. Also, the India team management might release him from the squad, along with other players, if he does not make it to the playing XI.

Shubhman Gill, Opener, Test cricket

Gill has been selected as reserve opener for the Test series. Rohit Sharma will get the first go and will be opening the innings with Mayank Agarwal.

Mandeep Singh will be leading Punjab in the List A tournament. He will be assigned by all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh Mann. India leg-spinner Mayank Markande is also a part of the team.

He will be available for the full List A tournament. Markande, who played one T20I against Australia earlier this year, will hope to do well and make his national comeback going ahead.

The recent selection policy of the selectors has shown that they are yet to ink on spinners for T20 World Cup.

India A regular Anmolpreet Singh is also a part of the Punjab squad along with all-rounder Abhishek Sharma.

Siddarth Kaul will be leading the pace attack and will be assisted by Sandeep Sharma and Arshdeep Singh. Siddharth will also hope to do well and make his national comeback. He was a part of the T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

Punjab will be without the services of Barinder Sran, who has switched his base to Chandigarh after not being named in the squad for the List A tournament. Manan Vohra and Uday Kaul are two other Punjab players who have moved to Chandigarh.

Punjab will kick off their season against Himachal Pradesh on September 25. They will later take on Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda and Odisha.
