Comeback Opener Smriti Mandhana Guides India Women To The ODI Series Victory Against Windies Women
India Women comfortably won the ODI series against the home team Windies Women after beating the hosts in the third and final ODI of the series at Antigua. On her comeback, Smriti Mandhana guided the visitors to the comfortable victory along with her opening partner Jemimah Rodrigues.
With the 1-1 position in this series, the hosts won the toss and decided to bat first. However, from the beginning of the match, the visiting bowlers were very tight. Apart from the 96 runs partnership for the sixth wicket between the captain Stafanie Taylor and Stacy-Ann King, Windies batters struggled in that entire innings.
Skipper Taylor scored 79 runs off 112 balls (5 fours and 2 sixes). On the other hand, King was the second most run-scorer in that innings as she scored 38 runs. Opener Hayley Matthews (26) and the middle-order batter Kyshona Knight (16) were the only other batters to reach the double-digit scores. Finally, in 50 overs, the hosts were all out on 194 runs.
Among the Indian bowlers, the pacer Jhulan Goswami (2/30) and the leg-spinner Poonam Yadav (2/35) picked up two wickets each. Also, the other Indian bowlers, Shikha Pandey (1/42), Rajeshwari Gayakwad (1/39) and Deepti Sharma (1/26) scalped one wicket each.

Chasing down the target, the Indian openers provided the very good start. Opening partners Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana put the 141 runs partnership. While Rodrigues scored 69 runs off 92 balls (6 fours), Player of the Match award winner Mandhana smashed 74 runs off 63 balls (9 fours and 3 sixes). During that 51st ODI innings, Mandhana completed her 2,000 ODI runs – third-fastest 2,000 ODI runs in women’s cricket.
Punam Raut (24) and captain Mithali Raj (20) both guided the visitors to the safe victory but they lost their wickets just before the victory. Finally, India Women chased that target in 42.1 overs after losing four wickets.
Hayley Matthews picked up three wickets (3/27) but other Windies’ bowlers failed to help her.
