Soumya Sarkar’s childhood hero was Sourav Ganguly. The southpaw revealed that after getting inspired by former Indian cricketer, he opted to be a left-hand batsman. Further after taking cricket as his passion, the Bangladesh cricketer became a fan of Yuvraj Singh’s destructive batting style.

Soumya made the debut for the Tigers in 2014 and has played 15 Tests, 55 ODIs and 40 ODIs. From batting to bowling, he has picked up all the traits from Ganguly. The allrounder is a top-order hard-hitting batsman with perfect skills of a pacer. Ganguly, who has 100 ODI wickets, was also considered as an allrounder because of medium pace bowling.

In the recent interaction, the 27-year-old had revealed that he loved to watch former Indian captain even before he took his cricket career seriously. Ganguly was his motivation to pick the bat and ball.

“My life’s first cricket hero was Sourav Ganguly. I was a fan of him even before I understood cricket fully. One day my brother said, ‘You will be a left-handed batsman like Ganguly and bowl right-arm medium pace’. I’m not a natural left-hander, I started it after my brother’s advice. Except batting, I do all my work with the right-hand,” Sarkar told bdnews24.

“I used to watch Sourav play on TV along with my brother. That time, an India-Pakistan game had a separate fanbase. While growing up, I became a fan of his cover-drive. And hitting the spinners by stepping out was incredible,” Soumya Sarkar stated.

As Sarkar grew up, he became a fan of Yuvraj Singh‘s aggressive batting style. The sixer king destroyed the opposition bowling line up with his confidence and changed the game in India’s favour.

“After growing up, Yuvraj Singh became my favourite cricketer. I loved his aggressive style of batting from the word go. He used to change the course of the game pretty quickly. He didn’t spare anyone and was fearless. Even I wish to play like him,” Sarkar mentioned,” Soumya Sarkar said while talking about Yuvraj.

Soumya Sarkar plays a significant role in his team as an allrounder, scoring 818 Test runs, 1728 ODIs runs, and 885 T20Is runs.
