Former Indian captain and present Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly recently underwent COVID-19 test after his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly recently had a positive result in COVID-19 test. However, the former Indian captain’s latest COVID-19 test had a negative result.
Since Snehasis received the positive COVID-19 report, Sourav is going through home quarantine for more than a week. The BCCI President is living with his family and ailing mother.
A source close to Sourav Ganguly told PTI, “He (Ganguly) is living with his ailing mother and family, so as a precautionary measure he took the test voluntarily and the report came negative on Friday evening.”
Sourav Ganguly’s older brother is doing fine
Former Bengal cricketer Snehasish Ganguly is currently the joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). After the 52-year-old was tested COVID-19 positive, he was admitted to Belle Vue Hospital. At present, he is fine and handling the office work from the hospital. Snehasish can be released from the hospital in a couple of days.
The source added, “He is doing fine and also handling his office work from the hospital through virtual meetings. We expect him to be released in a couple of days.”
In last June, the media report claimed that Snehasish’s family members – wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, their domestic help were tested COVID-19 positive. Since then, he was shifted to his ancestral house in Behala where the BCCI President also lives.
At that time, it was also claimed that Snehasis also had COVID-19 positive result but the CAB joint-secretary quashed that rumour by claiming that he was perfectly all right. But in the middle of this month, it was confirmed that Snehasish had COVID-19 positive result.
According to the present BCCI constitution, Sourav Ganguly will have to face the three-year mandatory cooling-off period after the end of this month as he is going to complete six years in the cricket administration role (BCCI and state association combined). However, the fate of his BCCI President role now can be decided in the middle of August.
