Indian national cricket team is currently busy in their first day/night pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens (Kolkata). While the Indian captain Virat Kohli has once again shown his great batting form in his first experience with the pink-ball, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly called him a run machine.
After Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, the visitors were bundled out for just 106 runs. In reply, most of the other Indian batsmen struggled to face the pink ball, but the skipper Virat Kohli was not among them.
While two other Indian batsmen scored half-centuries in that same innings (Cheteshwar Pujara 55 and Ajinkya Rahane 51), the second-ranked Test batsman Virat Kohli hit his 70th international cricket century or 27th Test century.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli scored 136 runs off 194 balls with 18 fours. Kohli played his natural game even in this unfamiliar condition.
Talking about this batting performance from Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain and present BCCI President Sourav Ganguly quoted, “He is a run machine.”
Pink ball is actually easier than the red ball – Sourav Ganguly talking about the visibility
Sourav Ganguly feels that the visibility of the pink ball is better than the traditional red ball.
Ganguly quoted, “It’s actually easier than the red ball.”
Virat Kohli’s outstanding batting helped India to manage the big first-innings lead of 241 runs. Just some minutes before the tea break on day two, India declared their first innings on 347/9.
At the stumps on day two, the visiting side Bangladesh were battling on 152/6 and they were still trailing by 89 runs. After picking up five wickets (5/22) in the first innings, the Indian tall-pacer Ishant Sharma has already scalped four more wickets (4/39) in the second innings of Bangladesh team.
While Bangladesh batting has massively failed in this Test series, Sourav Ganguly has reminded, “They don’t have 4-5 main players”.
Sourav Ganguly is very happy with the response of the Kolkata crowd for this historic Test match.
