Highest 6th wicket partnership – On day 2 of the second Test (4-match Test series) between South Africa and England at Cape Town, English batsmen Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow had put on a 399-run partnership for the 6th wicket. It is the highest 6th wicket Test partnership. The previous highest 6th wicket Test partnership record was for 365* runs between Kane Williamson and BJ Watling (New Zealand) against Sri Lanka at Wellington in 2015.
Highest score by no.6 batsman – On the same day of the same Test between South Africa and England, England batsman Ben Stokes became the new highest individual Test score by a no.6 batsman. Breaking the previous record of former Australian cricketer Doug Walters’ 250 runs innings as a no.6 Test batsman (against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1977), Stokes had scored 258 runs in that innings against South Africa.
