Karun Nair’s triple century: After failing in his first two Test matches against England, it was the last chance for Karun Nair to redeem himself as another failure could have resulted in him being dropped, probably for a long time.
Under a palpable burden to show that he is a player for the long term, Karun Nair went on tumbling records, tearing apart English attack. The Karnataka batsman went on to score a triple century, becoming just second Indian batsman to achieve this record.
He started off well taking small steps and slowly stick his feet on the crease. At first, he steered the team ahead and shared huge partnership with KL Rahul to get past England’s total and then soon helped Indian team gain lead over England. Once he reached the mark of 250, he immediately changed gears and marched towards 300 in no time, scoring the first ever triple century of his career, in just his third Test match. Riding on his innings, Indian team scored personal best of 759 runs.
It was the magic of his innings that Indian team did not have to bat again and thrashed England by a margin of an innings and 75 runs.
