It seems like Sri Lanka is trying to change the phase of the Sri Lanka cricket. After a recent loss in the ICC World Cup 2019, the senior players Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara called curtains on their career while a new coach is set to make his way in place of Chandrika Hathurusingha.
They asked him to step down after the completion of Bangladesh series in home conditions. Sources in Sri Lanka Cricket said SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva has written to Hathurusinghe asking him to resign. Hathurusinghe was under pressure to quit after Sri Lanka’s dismal showing in the recent World Cup.
Chandrika Hathurisingha failed to achieve success for Sri Lanka:
The 51-year-old was appointed in December 2017 after he left his job with the Bangladesh team. However, he was not able to turn around Sri Lanka’s dismal performances and the team lost 13 out of the 20 ODIs played in the run-up to the World Cup under his charge, which left them at No.8 in international rankings.

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister has asked the cricket board to replace the coaching staff. It was headed by Chandika Hathurusingha after the national team’s early exit in the recent World Cup, an official said Monday.
Hathurusingha was hired in 2017 after a successful stint with Bangladesh. But Sri Lanka was eliminated in the group stage at the World Cup after winning only three of nine games. Sri Lanka Cricket has employed 11 coaches, including interim appointments, from 2011 to 2017.
However, Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva said any decision must be mindful of Sri Lanka’s bad reputation for hiring and firing coaches. Perhaps, they want to make one good change in order to make things fall in place for the next season.
