D) Key Stats for success in the previous Test matches between Sri Lanka and India in Sri Lanka
For Sri Lanka:
i) Restrict India under 250 (75%) – Hosts Sri Lanka had restricted Indian team under 250 runs in Test innings (only completed or all out innings) for 12 times (9 Tests). Out of those, 9 (6 Tests) had occurred during Sri Lanka’s victory times while only once Sri Lanka had lost.
ii) At least 7-wicket in a Test match for a spinner (73%) – Total 11 times (9 Tests) had happened when a Sri Lankan bowler had taken seven or more wickets in a home Test match against India. Out of those, eight (6 Tests) were the match winning bowling figures and only two (2 Tests) were the match defeating bowling figures.
For India:
i) Restrict Sri Lanka less than 300 (83%) – Till the date, the Indian team had restricted 12 times the hosts Sri Lankan team for less than 300 in Test innings (only completed or all out innings). Out of those, 10 were ended India’s favour (6 Tests) as India had won those encounters while they had only suffered a defeat and also had a draw game in their remaining performances.
ii) Minimum 6-wicket in a Test match for a bowler (82%) – Total 11 times had happened when an Indian bowler had received 6 or more wickets in a Test match against Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan soil. Out of those, 9 (6 Tests) were finished as the match winning bowling figures while India had suffered defeats during the remaining 2 times (2 Tests).
iii) 5-wicket haul for a spinner in an innings (75%) – Total four times (4 Tests) Indian spinners were able to claim 5-wicket haul in Test innings during their Sri Lanka tour, out of which India had won thrice and lost only once.
