Sri Lankan sports ministry has reported to the country’s FCID (Financial Crimes Investigation Department) about an allegation of fixing approach made to Kushal Perera and Rangana Herath.
Earlier, Sri Lankan sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara revealed that a bookie had offered Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Kushal Perera and spinner Rangana Herath to give up the match against West Indies in the first Test at Galle in the last October. Bookmakers had planned a shocking Test victory for feeble West Indies. Rs. 10 million ($70,000) had been offered players to execute their plan, which both Herath and Kusal refused to take on the spot.
Further, SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) officials had said that the both players immediately reported that approach to the ICC’s ACSU (Anti-Corruption and Security Unit).
But currently, the sports ministry has moved to put a domestic investigation due to the Perera’s testing positive in the ICC dope test.
Sri Lankan sports ministry official KDS Ruwanchandra said, “There is some suspicion of a net bowler, who was around for that West Indies series, so the sports ministry has passed the information on to the FCID.”
Earlier, Jayasekara has also suggested that a “conspiracy” may be to blame for Perera testing positive for a banned substance.
Perera is awaiting full details from his B sample test which he has opted recently.
