Gambhir and Uthappa have been a successful opening pair for several sides, let alone the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) alone. The two have opened at various platforms for India A or the age-group related Indian team. But their most memorable displays as an opening pair have come up for the Knight Riders as the two aggressive openers have time and again put up spirited performances. During the 2014 IPL as Kolkata struggled in the mid-table, just one tactical move did the trick and made them invincible. It was the ploy of using Uthappa and Gambhir as openers which reaped heavy dividends and ultimately, helped them in winning the title.
